Jamie Hayon's Re-Deco collection: The future looks perfect

This weekend, Brooke and I ventured to Williamsburg, Brooklyn to pay a visit to The Future Perfect, a museum-like home furnishing store cum design gallery. The store not only showcases functional art, like the glass topped “lazy susan-style” coffee table that Brooke fell in love with, it also serves as an exhibit space. Currently, on exhibit at The Future Perfect is the exclusive launch of Lladró’s Re-Deco collection. The collection has been on quite a tour, last month, the Re-Deco collection was unveiled at Colette’s in Paris and remained on exhibit for one week in the window display, where it was seen by thousands of people given the store’s location in the very heart of Paris.

My mother is an avid collector and I’ve been in awe of Lladro’s craftsmanship for quite sometime. Lladró, a name that is synonymous with evocative figurines, is changing its look with Jamie Hayon's new Re-Deco collection. This collection is a new twist on Lladró’s classic figurines.

It is obvious that Lladró is trying to reinvigorate the brand for a hipper, younger, customer who takes cues from tastemaker retailers like Future Perfect & Colette.

When you think of Lladro, images conjure up of beautiful, hand-made porcelain figurines – something for a loyal collector ... or maybe even your mother. Well not any more! First it was Spanish young-guns CuldeSac then it was German designer Bodo Sperlein, now with Jaime Hayon at the helm as Art Director, Spain's most treasured porcelain company is taking some inspiring leaps and bounds into the art and design world. The results are simply stunning!

From here, the future of an ordinary home does indeed look perfect.
