Dining by Design 2008: MacKenzie-Childs

If your table could use a bit of whimsy, there is no better place to turn than to New York's
MacKenzie-Childs.

Since 1983, MacKenzie-Childs has been lightening decorating schemes with their pleasingly
eccentric designs.

From a farm in upstate New York, a core of talented artists and artisans produce trademark
color-drenched, multi-patterned and voluptuously decorated tableware.

Every year, I enjoy being inspired from Dining by Design. You can see so many different ideas all at once. The big budgets allocated to the tablescapes make you dream.

Unfortunately, this table by MacKenzie-Childs is not it for me. In 2008, I expect more solid designs from the creme de la creme in tabletop designs. Eclectic, bold and fun designs still require a strong focus, a clear direction. I do not feel it enough with what MacKenzie-Childs did.

But I cannot wait, Sarah, to read the rest of your reports on DIFFA.

I like this to a degree. While the designer in me screams 'it's waaaay to clustered and busy', it nevertheless has a kind of 'alice in wonder land mad tea party' charm which i like. tho i feel like if i stared at it for too long i'd either get a headache or start to see optical illusions.

still, it's got a colorful, vibrant, surreal quality to it that certainly makes it stand out.
