The Color Purple: stemware

"I think it pisses God off when you walk by the color purple in a field and don't notice it." - Shug Avery from The Color Purple, a Broadway musical

Forget traditional stemware, this season's tables are set in color. So let's raise a toast to this rich jewel tone and the sexy detailing of the best colored crystal stemware. Companies ranging from William Yeoward and Saint Louis to Iittala offer something colorful -- from shot and liqueur glasses to champagne and martini glasses. (Image above: House Beautiful)

Adding purple stemware to your table is a fun way to update traditional china, if you have your mom's or grandmother's old china, you can really punch up your table with colored stemware. (Images above: Matthew Mead)

If purple is your favorite color, you can incorporate purple champagne flutes or other glasses into your collection. Or you can mix it up more than that -- serve a tray of purple juice or liqueurs in a beautiful crystal glass. Using color can be a way of expressing your personality on the table, whether it's a big catered party or a dinner for six. (Images above: Brides.com and House Beautiful)

I love the first picture that table is so beautiful. The styles from Saint Louis Crystal; William Yeoward and David Redman are wonderful. I love glassware that has character and these definitely do. Great post!

I agree, I love that first picture also. It was one of the main inspirations for this post. The other inspiration came when I was attending a "Wedding Party" event at Bloomingdales and stopped by the William Yeoward section. Natasha, pictures don't do these glasses justice. His glasses are absolutely beautiful and the way they're cut makes them sparkle little jewels!

Love that first picture and it looks so much like the table at a luncheon I went to earlier this summer (with tall skinny vases with a flower in each) I posted the picture of the table on my blog about 1 month ago, if you want to go back and look.

Anne, thanks for stopping by! Don't you just love the variety of pieces.

I also tried to incorporate different price points - - - so which one is it "splurge" or "save"?!!?

For me, I have to splurge on the William Yeoward glasses, even if it means buying 1 at time. (smile)

Erin, thanks for the link. I love Amy & Evan's wedding! The way they used purple was absolutely spot on - - - her bouquet, the bridesmaid dresses, the cake and the table setting....all just beautiful!

I couldn't agree with you more - - - purple in combo with this season's must have color "Grey" is HOT! HOT! HOT!

Hey TPAG, I saw the table from your girlfriend's birthday luncheon and thought she did a magnificent job of setting the table. The tall glass vases, the flowers and the tablecloth - - - the color scheme really worked. Thanks for the tip!
